The year has had a great start! All of us are learning to be prepared for class and to stay organized with our binders, notebooks, folders, and agendas. We would like to remind all parents to continue to sign the agenda and check for the completed homework until the end of October. We are using several strategies to help your children be successful and signing the agenda is only one of them. The others are having an organized binder with notebook and folder for each subject. There is a homework folder to hold the homework to go home and a side to have the work that is to come back to school. Inside each child’s locker there is a locker schedule that informs him/her about which class(es) to be prepare for.
Each class has a homework board where teachers write down what the homework is daily. Please help us by encouraging you children to write exactly what is written on the homework board and write it neatly! Another strategy is to pack up for the day the night before. Binders, homework, signed notices, and reading books should be put in the backpack and put by the door before going to bed. Each language arts class is in full swing with the reading and writing workshop. The children are writing personal narratives, which are familiar to them from last year. Expository writing will begin in October, along with learning to inferring.
Children are still being encouraged to read books at their “just right“ levels. This will help their understanding and fluency in the long-run. We also encourage reading only one book at a time for the same reasons. We enjoyed seeing many of you, parents/guardians, at Back to School Night!
We are happy that the weather and heat held out. Please keep the lines of communication open.
