 Building Entrance

Fawn Hollow has installed a new security system for entering the building.  This technology is now installed in all three elementary schools.  All doors to Fawn Hollow will be locked during school hours.  All visitors must enter via the farthest right front main door and use the intercom (follow the arrow button) to enter.  Reminder, all visitors must proceed to the office to sign in and obtain a visitor pass.  Parents/Guardian, please walk you child into school during school hours or go over the procedure of entering the building with your child so he/she is aware of the new procedure.  All children entering the building after school starts at 8:55 a.m. must report to the office for a tardy pass.   We have heard many compliments from our parents/guardians on our new system.  We would like to thank parents/guardians for their part in helping keep Fawn Hollow a happy and safe building.

Beginning of the day:

Our school day begins at 8:55 am.  Teachers are not scheduled to be in their classrooms until 8:40 am and are often elsewhere in the building in meetings, preparing lessons, Xeroxing, etc. before school starts.  If you arrive early, please stay in the foyer with your child.  Dropping off students to an unsupervised area is not a safe practice.

At the end of the day:

Pick Up

If you are picking up your child, please send a written note in the morning to your child’s teacher.  If your child is going to be picked up by someone else, please give specific information in writing.  You or the designated person may be asked to show identification when picking up your child from the Gym.  Please do not be offended since this is for your child’s safety.  Also, don’t forget to proceed to the exit as this helps with traffic flow.

Bus

Per the Board of Education Bus Policy, your child is assigned one bus for the way to school and one for the way home.  You are not allowed to switch buses on a given day.  If you send a note requesting a change of bus on a given day, you will receive a call from the office to clarify if the child will be picked up or will take the assigned bus home.  Again, this is for the safety of your child as the bus drivers know our students and ensure that they get home safely.

Classrooms:

Due to increased concerns over security, we are trying to keep all exterior doors locked during the school day except the front doors until we can get a camera/buzzer access system.  This fall, we had a keypad/fob system installed on all of our doors.  Our teachers have a fob to allow students’ access to the building while keeping the building secure.

After School Hours:

Despite having many public programs in our school throughout the week, we need to limit the number of people in and out of classrooms after school hours.  Custodians do not know which parents and/or students should be allowed into classrooms and there is concern over what people are doing in the rooms after hours.  Therefore, all classroom doors will be locked at dismissal.  No student or parent will be allowed into a classroom to collect forgotten work or materials.  If your child forgets something at school, a consequence is a valuable learning experience.  This is another way to help keep our students safe while teaching responsibility.

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s school experience.  These procedures and policies are all in place for your child’s safety.

Sincerely,

Sheila Casinelli,
