SOPHOMORE
Developmental School Counseling Program
The purpose of the developmental school
counseling program for sophomores is to facilitate their
academic, personal/social and college/career plans.Students
meet with their counselors individually, in small groups
and in computer labs. The Sophomore program consists of the
following components:
- Career Exploration:Administration of
an interest inventory to explore careers and aid in course
selection
- Academic Planning and 11th Grade Course
Selection
Throughout the year, counselors are available
for individual counseling concerning academic, social, personal
and crisis issues.
Looking Ahead to Your Future
The following guide was developed to assist
students in preparing for each year and planning for post
high school. If you have any questions, please feel free
to discuss them with your counselor.
SOPHOMORE YEAR
Things to think about:
- In which subjects did/do I excel?
- Am I taking courses that lead to my
goals and post high school plans?
- Am I giving my best to my sophomore
courses?
- Of my unique talents and strengths,
which would I most like to further develop?
- Am I involved in at least one extra-curricular
activity or community service?
- What potential career and post high
school options have I considered?
- Am I familiar with the College
and Career Center at Masuk?
Things to do:
- Update my personal file and resume
- Carry a strong academic program
- Seek assistance from teachers and counselors
when needed
- Register for PSAT/NMSQT
test in October
in the Pupil Services office, if appropriate.
- Maintain strong academic performance
and maintain excellent attendance records
- Be aware of academic and performance
graduation requirements.
- Talk to your teachers, parents and
counselor about course selections for Junior year in late
January
- Visit the College and Career Center
to explore post high school plans and interests
- Discuss internships with your counselor
- Attend Career
Day at Masuk held in
November
- Continue involvement in extra curricular
activities
- Consult with an academic teacher and
your counselor concerning SAT Subject Tests
