Inquiry Based Science Grades Pre K-4

General Information

The primary science program will allow students to practice their science skills by observing, classifying, comparing, predicting and communicating information; In addition, as students are given the opportunity to develop and practice their skills in observation, they will collect, compare and contrast data; and communicate their results in drawing and in writing. As they become more familiar with scientific inquiry, they will not only collect and record but will also evaluate data, compare and contrast their observations and learn to predict and communicate their results of their experimentation.

The upper elementary science program provides a blend of science content with the science process skills.  Students are involved in experimentation where that they observe, measure, compare and contrast, collect and share data, make predictions and explain results.

"Science should be hands-on and minds-on so that children make sense of what they experience."

The middle school science program is a hands-on program whereby students become scientifically literate. Here they learn to apply their science ideas and methods as they work towards understanding the technology-enhanced, information-rich world beyond the classroom.

Scientific literacy requires the ability to apply critical thinking skills as they deal with science related issues. Fundamental concepts from life, physical and environmental science are woven together in an effort to support the holistic understanding of a scientifically literate person.

According to the Connecticut Frameworks, students will work to master the "development of basic explanations of natural phenomena and the ability to ask good questions and apply experimental procedures to collect and analyze data."

Masuk High School provides a variety of opportunities for science students. According to the Connecticut Frameworks, high school students work towards the "development of interest in global issues
