ADAM – Prevention Through Education

Alcohol and Drug Awareness of Monroe (ADAM) is Monroe’s Local Prevention Council (LPC). The Regional Action Council of which Monroe is a member is coordinated by the Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership (RYASAP). In addition to Monroe, our region includes Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull.

ADAM’s specific goals are mandated by Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). These goals include implementing programs and activities that increase public awareness of alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention that is primarily focused on our youth.

The purpose of ADAM is to heighten the awareness of Monroe’s residents about the dangers of alcohol and drug use and to encourage a community lifestyle free of substance abuse.

What We Do…

The purpose of ADAM is to heighten the awareness of Monroe’s residents about the dangers of alcohol and drug use and to encourage a community lifestyle free of substance abuse. ADAM raises community awareness of substance abuse and available support services by working with schools and community agencies on substance abuse related issues.

The group offers informative materials and resources to parents and students about the effects of alcohol, drug and tobacco use. Numerous studies have demonstrated the success of prevention programs that educate and equip parents with information to help them communicate with their teens about alcohol, tobacco and drug issues.
